Emily Madsen
English Horn
Dr. Emily Madsen, English Horn, received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in oboe performance and music education. She earned a Master of Music degree in oboe performance from the Yale School of Music and completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Maryland in 2010. Emily played the oboe and English horn with the US Army Field band until 2007, where she performed as soloist and clinician with the Woodwind Ambassadors Quintet. She is principal oboist in the US Naval Academy band and has also taught at Frostburg State University and Morgan State University. Dr. Madsen is also an active freelancer in the Baltimore/Washington DC area, and has performed with Annapolis Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, and Concert Artists of Baltimore. Her dissertation includes music for oboe and electronically produced sounds, and she performed a program of this music at the 2010 International Double Reed Society Conference in Tempe, AZ. She has been favorably reviewed by both the Baltimore Sun and The Washington Post as a soloist with contemporary music groups Mobtown Modern and Tempo.
